It’s been five years, and yet photos of the devastation of super typhoon Yolanda still haunt us. Images of the harrowing destruction of Marawi City speak to us. Stark documentations of extrajudicial killings amid the drug war make us rage against the dying of the light.

Everywhere, pictures of the triumph of the Filipino spirit never cease to amaze us. These and other visual reportage of contemporary issues prove that, truly, "a picture is worth a thousands words".

Now on its 13th year, the Professional Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Workshop will help aspiring photojournalists how to build a story thru single images or a series of photographs through the eyes and wisdom of award-winning photographers.

The workshop is organized by the Photojournalists’ Center of the Philippines (PCP) and will be held this year in Dingalan, Aurora from November 21 to 25.

The annual workshop explores the different practices of photojournalists in the field and in the newsroom, as well as the different skills necessary in producing a single news photograph or the narrative of a photo story.

Participants will also get tips on how to structure images according to different platforms or publications and learn the ethical standards in the industry.

The workshop will be taught by some of the country’s top national and international photojournalists, visual storytellers, journalism educators and editors.

For years now, the workshop has produced alumni who have made a career in photojournalism and are now working for different news outlets.

The PCP workshop is the only comprehensive five-day training administered by working photojournalists. It is made possible thru the time and effort volunteered by PCP members as a way of giving back to the photographic community.

The workshop is also made possible thru the support of SMART Communications, Canon Philippines, Philippine Press Institute, PAGCOR, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Columbia Outdoor Clothing, YKL Color, Inc., the Aurora Artist Residency Program and Space and the Municipality of Dingalan.

Media partners include ABS-CBN News Digital, Picture Perfect-Manila Bulletin, UCA News, and PECOJON - Peace and Conflict Journalism Network.

This year's speakers are Alex Baluyut, mentor in Masterclass in Documentary Photography (MCDP);  Rolex dela Peña of the European Press Agency; Ernie Sarmiento, former chief photographer of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jimmy Domingo, a freelance photographer and instructor at the Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle University; Fernando Sepe Jr., Deputy Editor for Multimedia of ABS-CBN News Digital; and Gigie Cruz, photo editor for ABS-CBN News Digital.
