Filipina Photographer wins 3rd UNCCD Photo Contest People’s Choice Award

Filipina Photographer and PCP member Maria Virginia “Gigie” Cruz-Sy won the People’s Choice Award of the recently concluded 3rd United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification Photo Contest which highlights the problems of desertification, land degradation and drought.

Cruz' submitted photo “Waterless” is part of her ongoing documentary work “Contrasting Horizons” and “Running Low,” stories focusing on the impacts of Climate Change in the Philippines.

According to UNCCD, the Third Photo Contest was held in the lead up to the eleventh session of the Conference of the Parties (COP11), which will take place in Windhoek, Namibia, from 16-27 September. 

Over 1,600 photos were submitted, with the largest number of submissions from India. The winning pictures will be exhibited at the Conference of the Parties in Namibia.
