PCP condemns the shooting incident that wounded photojournalist Joshua Abiad

The Photojournalists Center of the Philippines (PCP) strongly condemns the shooting incident that wounded photojournalist Joshua Abiad of Remate Online and his three family members in Quezon City on June 29, 2023, as reported by Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

PCP supports the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in their vow to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the suspects and bring them to justice.

We agree with the NCRPO statement that "this heinous act is an attack not only on the individuals involved but also on the freedom of the press and the values we hold dear as a society.”

We stand in solidarity with the media community as we struggle for press freedom, and call for justice for other journalists who are victims of harassment and violence, and coordinate with agencies for the continued protection of rights and insurance of our safety as we perform our duties in a democratic society.
