PCP joins 2013 World Press Freedom Day

Simulkites: Soar High for Press Freedom was organized by NUJP and other media organizations–among them the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, Philippine Press Institute, Philippine Center for Photojournalism, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, Center for Community Journalism and Development.

Members of the media fly kites as a symbol of free expression in celebration of World Press Freedom Day at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City on Friday. The Philippines is 3rd in the annual Impunity Index done by the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Since the United Nations declared May 3 as World Press Freedom Day in 1991, journalists around the world have taken this opportunity to commemorate the fundamental principles of the press, and to celebrate and honor journalists who have shown courage in standing up for media ethics and free expression.

Organized by NUJP and other media organizations–among them the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, Philippine Press Institute, Philippine Center for Photojournalism, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, Center for Community Journalism and Development.
